Achieving just social order through the empowerment of the unorganized poor and women when the marginalized people will have become Self Reliant and materialized Sustainable Development

 

Legal status of the Organization

    • Salem Social Service Society has been registered under societies Registration Act with the serial No 12 of 1968. 
    • It has Income tax exemption under 80(G) of Income Tax Act 1961 of Government of India and 12 AA of Income Tax Act 1961 of Government of India.
    • It has been registered under Foreign Contributions Regulation Act of Government of India (FCRA) with the S. No. 076000021
 

 From1968 to 1980
In the early 70’s , Salem Social Service Society was fully engaged in charitable services which were continued up to 1980.

From 1981 to 1985:
There was a shift in our approach giving focus on Awareness Education in the areas such as Unity of Villagers, Problem Analysis, Formation of Village Committees and Collective Development Planning.

From 1986 to 1989
We Worked for Women Development by promoting Self – Help Groups and Income generating Micro Projects. Simultaneously, Youth Animation and vocational Training Porgrammes were effectively implemented to address their socio economic needs and betterment

 

From 1990 to 1995
Typical Problems of Tamilian Women such as Female Infanticide, Dowry harassments, Gender in equality, Female illiteracy, Female Child labour etc were taken for intervention. And this was facilitated by SHGs, Block Level and District Level federations of Women and Landless Agricultural Labourers.

After 1996
Since 1996, Salem Social Service Society has been chiefly concentrating in the Eradication of female infanticide / Foeticide, Prevention of AIDS/ HIV and Rehabilitation of AIDS/HIV patient
Very recently, we have entered the area of Case work dynamics enabling the target people to thrive best in their situations with the background support of the Net work of NGOs, Peoples Organizations and Local Bodies/Panchayat Councils.


More over, our project people have yet to increase their skills in the process of Lobby and Advocacy to achieve Self Reliance, Self - Sufficiency and Sustainable Development which are continuous processes. However, the above stated activities and the resulted achievements have benefited a small cross section of the community in our operational area.
